A world in black and white

Celebrating this tiny speck of light and enormous explosion - see previous post - I turn to Woman in the moon (1929). The moon seems to be a world of darkness and eternal winter, something that does appeal to me, a Northener.

I think of the White Witch of Narnia and the realm of Hel though I can't find no testament that the latter's land is that of winter.

(Do I associate women with winter?)

Did they ever find the woman in the moon?
I must find out.

Look at these lovely graphics:

The energy of the black square

"What you ultimately discover is that there is a certain energy in the black square with its seven pieces - a force that goes beyond geometry and linear thinking. It is an energy that empowers you to exceed your present mental abilities and attain a higher level of vision."

I got a crush on a tangram puzzle at the neighborhood Red Cross. 40kr worth of graphics and intrigues. The possibilities for inspiration seem almost as manyfold as the amount of figures you can turn your seven pieces into.
(1.600 according to the accompanying booklet!)

The shapes also remind me of an old logo I was toying with for myself once upon a time, inspired by the origami shuriken. Funny.

What inspires you right now?

(The quote is from Tangram by Joost Elffers and Michael Schuyt.)

Pearls, ribbons and lace

These big girls I pass by almost every day on my morning walk.
I like how their armored bodies are tricked out with lacelike patterns, sheer pastels and fashionably coarse necklaces. I love their vintage colours and their sharp yet rounded angels.

Also I like asking myself: Where should I go today?

PS. I would not want this job.

Söderfint värre

I must admit I do feel a little söderfin (like hm, south Sthlm sweet)
when I click clack around in my new old spring coat and shoes,
happily chanting the Ella tune like a tiny blue barrel organ.

Thank you Karol dear!

Flesh out

Yesterday was a most social day and so unusual for me who spend most of my days in silence by my great grandmother's table.

- ( Chatting with Jessica the producer and Karolina the photographer and the new girl in town, little Ellis. An info meeting at The Swedish Arts Grants Committee. An Israel - journalism meet up with Anna and Henrik. A few drinks at the a pub with David and the Glenn. ) -

And two What Was Once designs were made. I'm still not satisfied. There will be one more today before my mother alters my second hand findings and we plan our Easter supper.

PS. Love this city in the city. Gimme some.

Pacify

Drench your film sorrows in vintage finds, I say.
And Törley, plenty of Törley.

And silky cuddles.

Of heavy heart

What to do when sad?
I'll tell you.

Having lunch with my Lieblingspiel, a photography walk in the sun, second hand shopping and looking, replanting my plants, a cleaning of the kitchen and as a creamy dot over an i of mash music and Törley, the noblest of beverages, in abundance with my sweet.

This doesn't cure of course, but it helps, plenty.
Non-computery action for those gifted with a heavy heart.

Pale

Lately I've been reluctant to discuss my film work with family and friends. When two out of three money people give you bad news and you're still awaiting response from the third it's hard to feel in charge. You can have the best film going for you and connect willing and able people to it and still, for various reasons, get a turn down - even if said money people claim they love your project and wish it to be made.

It makes it hard to keep your flame up.

Today my producer and I go second hand shopping/have a film meeting. It's best to mix up the hard with the fun.

Second hand riches

I've been sorting out my wardrobe and thought I'd share with you some of my gems. I realize, uploading these, they are all second hand... Hm.

The embroidery of my silk blouse. Going.
I remember the look of the behind the counter girl. She couldn't believe anyone would buy this. In hindsight I kinda reluctantly agree.

My sailor top. Oh, so staying.
I bought it to turn it into a coat, Madicken goes sailor style. But I haven't.

My granny skirt. Going.

My disco jump suit. Going. Most definitely so.

My star sweater. Very much staying. Mon amour.

My Karin Wester skirt. Staying. And getting shortened.

This skirt, every time I've worn it I've been stopped by different women asking me where I got it. Why, it's second hand of course. Staying.

A kimono given to me by Karolina. Apparently her grand father bought it in a land far, far away. Staying.

Two summer kimonos bought at the temple flea market in Kyoto. Oh the patterns, the beauty. One day I'd like to turn them into dresses. Too bad I can't sew. Staying.

And a belt. Lovely. Could it become... a bag? Staying.

Last some circular reflections that made me very happy last night.
I'm a child at heart, you know it.

PS. Tonight Cynthia Stern playing neck to neck with DJ Leenus!
Quantum Hustle, Pleasant, Kammakarg 9, 21-01. I will be there.

With a vengeance

From Märsta and back... with a vengeance!

Blogger is killing me with its' slowitude today.
Is it Blogger or my connection that's the beast?

For the record I must add I'm still in love with the snow.
I realize I might be the only one here in Sthlm.
I helped an old lady home from the shop today. She had wicked make up, super red glossy lips and green eye liner. And white hair. A looker. My poor mum can't even leave the house. It's not right.

Today has been a most inspiring day, I had a business meeting this morning, you never know what leads to what, but meeting up with inspiring, professional people is such a hoot. I was happy sweaty afterward and that's a proper happy feeling.

I forced myself to ta mitt pick och pack and go shopping for clothes afterward. I'd had that in my schedule for a week, Friday, go shopping. I don't like it much, trying things on and prancing about in boutiques, but I think I did well. A spring coat, a 20's style glitzy sweater, two skirts and a handbag shaped like a blue silky shell, with a gold shell locket. Most of it was second hand.

The coat needs alterations, I'll take it to my mother the seamstress that don't like sewing any more. In my mind I can hear her sigh already and make out her concentrated frown. We've already had two nervous phone conversations about the collar. (She's nervous, not I.)

That's what you get for making babies.
It's short and sweet and then there's trouble.
